Secondary damage from a water loss

9/28/2017 (Permalink)

When our toilets overflow or the washing machine hose springs a leak, most of us grab a bunch of towels and absorb the leaked water. We feel pretty good about the clean up and call a professional to fix the damaged household items.

The professional arrives and fixes the leaks and you are grateful that the issue has been resolved. Unfortunately, the majority of the time there is a problem that most do not consider because it isn't visible to the naked eye.

Leaks can cause damage for a long time before becoming noticeable. The washing machine may have been leaking a small amount previous to the large leak. Also, the amount of water leaked may have penetrated to the sub floor. If that is the case, the water left to dry on its own will grow mold or rot the areas that have absorbed the hidden water.

It is always important to have any water leak checked out to prevent further damage. At SERVPRO OF EUREKA we have special tools to do just that. We can use a moisture sensor to check if there is remaining water in the areas in and around the primary leak. We also have a moisture meter that measures the amount of moisture left behind. If there is water detected we have the equipment to dry the area quickly and thoroughly to prevent the secondary damage of mold or dry rot.

If you have had a water leak, give us a call for an inspection and we will let you know if you need further remediation. 707-445-0900
