Commercial fires can have devastating consequences for business owners. Not only is your building damaged, but any equipment or inventory inside the building can be damaged as well.

Not all fires can be prevented. But there are cautionary steps that you can take to prevent many of them. Electrical fires are a common type of fire that can happen in commercial buildings and they cause very costly property damage. The good news is that they are also quite often avoidable.

Never overload a power strip or electrical outlet. They can only handle a certain amount of electricity. If they become overloaded, a fire is more likely to start.
In addition to avoiding power overloads, it's important that you maintain order in the workplace setting.  You can reduce the risk of fire by keeping chemicals and other flammable materials away from power strips, electrical outlets, and other areas of the property that experience high levels of heat and electrical arcing.

Know that clutter is a huge fire hazard, store boxes containing documents in file cabinets and maintain neat storerooms.
Always keep your fire sprinkler system well maintained and replace batteries and check your smoke and fire alarms each quarter of the year. Check your fire extinguishers and make sure all employees know where to locate them and how to use them.
